Congratulations on three beautiful and moving concerts!
"Remarkable. Inspiring. Uplifting. And that doesn’t even come close!"
...in the words of one viewer to KHON-TV. Many thanks to those who sang, played, and attended our two performances of Mozart's Requiem at St. Andrew's Cathedral. And it was a privilege for the Symphony Chorus to be a part of the commemoration at Kawaiahaʻo Church as well.

On September 11, 2002, Mozart’s Requiem was performed by choruses and orchestras in over 24 countries, including all time zones, in commemoration of the horrific events of a year earlier. In observance of the 10th anniversary of that tragedy, the Oʻahu Choral Society (OCS) will present Mozart’s Requiem on September 10 at 7:30 pm and September 11 at 4:00 pm, at St. Andrew’s Cathedral.
The Honolulu Symphony Chorus will be joined in this performance by members of the Kona Music Society (Susan Duprey, Artistic Director) as well as a national and international list of guest singers, comprising over 100 voices. The chorus and featured soloists Georgine Stark, Anna Mooy, Guy Merola, and Nicholas Walters will be accompanied by members of the new Hawaiʻi Symphony Orchestra and conducted by OCS Artistic Director, Esther S. Yoo.
Mozart died with his Requiem far from complete, and the work was initially completed by his student, Franz Xaver Süssmayr. Over the years, a number of composers and musicologists have undertaken alternative completions. The Oʻahu Choral Society will be performing the version by Robert D. Levin, which premiered in 1991. This innovative treatment addresses the issues of instrumentation, grammar and structure of Süssmayr's version, while respecting the 200-year old history of this well-known masterpiece.
